The SAG Awards announced on Wednesday that its 27th annual ceremony will be simulcast on TNT and TBS on April 4 at 9 p.m. ET. An encore will air on TNT at 11 p.m. ET. The show’s production team will be led by SAG Awards executive producer Kathy Connell, with Avalon Harbor Entertainment and Hazy Mills Productions. Connell, Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner will again serve as executive producers. The 2021 SAG Awards event was originally scheduled to occur on March 14. The Grammy Awards announced last week that its 2021 event, originally scheduled for the end of January, would take place on March 14. That announcement caused SAG-AFTA to publicly express its anger at the Grammys’ scheduling conflict last week:
“We are extremely disappointed to hear of the conflicting date, March 14th, announced today for this year’s Grammy Awards telecast,” SAG-AFTRA said in a statement. “We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry.”

SAG Awards nominations are still being accepted and are scheduled to be announced on February 4.
Several awards shows have had to adjust their dates due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic; Los Angeles, where the Grammys, the SAG Awards, and most other industry awards shows are held, has become the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States in recent weeks. The date for the 2021 SAG Awards was already pushed back once due to the coronavirus.
IndieWire awards editor Libby Hill has been analyzing each TV distributor’s odds during the upcoming SAG Awards in recent weeks. Regarding HBO, Libby noted that though the premium cabler’s “Game of Thrones,” long a favorite with awards season voters, has ended, HBO has still dominated most TV awards shows and could continue to be a major contender during the 2021 SAG Awards.
“‘Game of Thrones’ is long gone, but HBO still cobbled together a wildly successful year at the Emmys, taking home 30 awards total, including big prizes in limited series for ‘Watchmen’ and drama series for ‘Succession,’” Libby said. “But despite their September celebration, there doesn’t appear to be a single series that has simultaneously garnered widespread critical acclaim while also capturing the cultural imagination. Still, like any competitor, all it takes is one big night at an awards ceremony to change a show’s fortunes.”
